We have recently received a few requests to PIC their LD. I honestly don't even think that in our current configuration we are capable of doing PICs - just curious if anyone has any experience/pertinent knowledge related to the topic? Thanks, Rob

Today is the Acme Packet University and Analyst Day. Some of the tweets had some nuggets I thought I would share: Acme Packet Analyst Event: Now that SBC is standardized, what's preventing others from catching up? Acme Packet CTO MeLampy answer: Complexity has risen; so overwhelming that it's a barrier to entry; APKT hired 200 ppl in the last 18 months to tackle it. Acme Packet CTO: standards complexity is killing the potential for end-user services. Patrick MeLampy discusses the newer complexities of multimedia communications. MeLampy: increased SIP complexity: 215 different RFCs related to SIP, 35 Internet drafts 2012 YTD, 80 Internet Drafts last 6 months @Acme_Packet: MeLampy: all our old competitors tried to solve the sbc problems like a firewall, and they all failed. MeLampy: making a simple call :136 messages , 17 entities , 6 protocols; Session state in 7 difference locations MeLampy: Making a 3GPP call (SIP session layer): Phone registration: 30 messages, 11 entities , 5 protocols. This looks great...thanks for the heads up. Paging system integration with VoIP

Does anyone here have advice on connecting a Valcom paging system with a hosted VoIP system? The site is about a thousand miles away so I can't just go play with it. At the most basic level I'm considering just a cheap phone on auto-answer and a connection from its headset jack to the paging amp. Any other ideas? -- Carlos Alvarez TelEvolve 602-889-3003

>From my limited exposure with them it really only provides QoS on an unmanaged LAN which can help if you are dealing with people on DSL or other public internet connections and the problems they have are LAN based data/VoIP contention. For example someone on the LAN is saturating the uplink with bit torrents - this can help make sure that the VoIP traffic takes priority without you having to manage their firewall/router. Of course this takes some time to setup and test. Simple VLANs can do the same thing with some work as well but the edgemark devices are a decent option for those looking for a one time set it and forget it option in this context. For the real issues - It doesn't support SCCP (those really cool looking Cisco phones) and it really doesn't help anything over the public internet. In some cases a simple TCP based tunnel can help improve call quality over public networks by keeping packet ordering and loss to a minimum but this comes with it's own trials and tribulations without much guarantee. Long story short - it may help depending on the problem you are trying to solve but be aware of the actual problem first.
