Upcoming Fees for Text Enabled Telephone Numbers (Bandwidth.com)

So I got this today from Bandwidth.com. A quick Google search yields no announcements or news that I can see. A call to Bandwidth got me zero information about how much this new "fee" will be on each number. Anybody have any more in-depth information about this? These changes will impact the fees associated with your account. The messaging industry is implementing a new monthly subscription fee for each text-enabled number. These fees will be issued by central registries (NetNumber and Somos (formerly SMS/800)) to which carriers and messaging providers (including Bandwidth) send records for message routing purposes. We anticipate that these central registries will begin invoicing Bandwidth for these monthly fees as soon as January 2016. Bandwidth is developing tools (GUI and API) to empower our customers to manage these costs by enabling or disabling messaging based upon individual telephone numbers. List URI BLF Config Unique?

Is the way Broadsoft implements Busy Lamp Field (BLF) with a list URI unique only to Broadsoft? I believe I am talking about Enhance BLF. In the configuration of BLF on a Polycom phone using Broadsoft there is a Broadsoft List URI field. The same is true with Yealink, Gigaset, Cisco, and other phones. Instead, each line you want to monitor, needs to be added in the config file. The phone then has to be rebooted, and the new config file has to be loaded. Here is what the freeswitch wiki shows: Enhanced BLF provides ringing indication and directed call pick-up capability. Once a productivity license has been installed, the BLF configuration can be added to the phone1.cfg(resp. in a phone-specific settings file like "${MAC}-settings.cfg). Sophisticated Voice-Response Robocalls

I just got a pretty sophisticated voice-response robocall. Caller: "Hello is Jen there?" (My wife's name. Coincidence or intentional?) Me: "I'm sorry, Who is this?" Caller: "Oh sorry I was calling for either of you. This is Debbie [something] and I'm calling about ... [sales pitch for something]" Me: "Excuse me, could you tell me what 5 plus 7 is?" Caller: "Oh well then I'll call back later, OK?" Me: "No." Caller: "OK, bye." Now I could tell that these were recordings pretty quickly, but I had to throw a Turing Test at it to be sure. The call and audio quality was good, and frankly, I was impressed, right until the anger flooded in about it being a robocall. Anyone else experience the same? Future of the Traditional PSTN vs VOIP and VoLTE

Aloha Group, I'm curious to know others thoughts on where they believe the traditional PSTN is going vs VOIP and VoLTE. Now that Iconnectiv will be administering the LNP in the US I feel as though it's the best time to try and propose new or more up to date solutions that allow smaller carriers to operate. For example there is no charge to have the ability to port numbers in NPAC, but there is a monthly charge for the remote access to the NPAC. Then the interconnectivity at the LEC level. The archaic ways of telecom have not seemed to change much although VOIP is now in my opinion the standard of telecom. VOIP will soon be able to get code blocks and route via SIP vs SS7 and LERG. LERG, ASR/LSR, SS7 all systems owned by one monopolizing company. Erik F. VoLTE vs UMA (GAN)

Good day, would it be valid to compare VoLTE vs UMA/GAN, and if so what would be the differences? My 10,000 feet view is that UMA/GAN is an older techology for switching voice between WiFi data channel and an actual GSM/3G voice channel. Whereas VoLTE is a fairly recent spec and it switches between WiFi and LTE, both being IP data channels, sort of like your 'eth0' and 'eth1'. I guess both integrate heavily into core mobile network and into headset OS, and would offer similar user experience? Both can be leveraged by either MNO or MVNO, but not by some sort of over-the-top app? Many thanks! -Victor
