Agreed. Well, the matter is a little more nuanced than that; highly specialised and idiosyncratic proprietary equipment can be a serious OPEX issue when you really need to figure something out, and/or when you have an emergency. I can't speak to the GUI/EMS, but on the CLI I would not say Acme Packet SBCs are simple to administer. But if you're willing to take the hit as a company and figure it out without the vendor, it's doable.
