If you dump it on a local tandem untranslated, you're being billed the dip cost and you're entitled to capture that as well as whatever your tariffed rates for the traffic are. (some carriers will bill the dip directly to the terminating ixc if you send them the traffic, so make sure you check so you're not double dipping) If you dip it yourself, and send it to a tandem to terminate on the IXC, then you can bill both elements as well. It's not a lot these days, but it's something.

I was just commenting on what the trunks would accept......not whether its cost or time effective to save the 8YY dips so you point it to a cheaper route.

You should be able to route 8YY traffic over both but only IntraLATA 8YY traffic over the Local IntraLATA trunk group.

In looking in my Metaswitch config, it appears that only 8YY traffic destined for my LATA (which doesn't really make any sense) goes to the tandem. Everything else goes out to a domestic termination provider.
