Bandwidth.com Wholesale opinions?

I'm talking with them to start setting up a wholesale sip trunk with them. The rates look great. In the past it seems they were mainly a Level3 reseller. However now that they are a CLEC, have they mixed in other carriers as well? Whats the general opinion of them? I see from today's thread they only are a SIP proxy and don't touch the media so I may have ON-net issues with their customers every now and then. Are there any other complaints or compliments for them? ~Jared Geiger

We tried them about two years ago. They had a lot of limitations which meant we couldn't use them. I don't recall all of them, but lots to do with caller ID, CNAM, etc. We canceled during the 30 day trial period, and then six months later learned that they sent us to collections for the entirety of the contract that we never entered into. I don't think the price is all that great. What volume are you talking about? -- Carlos Alvarez TelEvolve 602-889-3003

They are an extremely common origination and termination source and are probably in use by a high percentage of people on this list. I would say origination is more common than termination, but they do both. Most of their stuff is still Level3, as far as I can tell, but they did develop some CLEC holdings in 2009 and have been busily porting large amounts of numbers out of Level3 and onto their own network. At the time when this process first started, there were definitely some hiccups, but it seems pretty stable these days. Because they are such a large and ubiquitous vendor, opinions are to some extent irrelevant; people don't use them out of endearment, but because of the terms and the footprint. Last I heard their minimums for wholesale termination were pretty hefty, but that may have changed or just not be the case for you. -- Alex Balashov - Principal Evariste Systems LLC 1170 Peachtree Street 12th Floor, Suite 1200 Atlanta, GA 30309 Tel: +1-678-954-0670 Fax: +1-404-961-1892 Web: http://www.evaristesys.com/

I figured they'd have to be stable for Google to be using them for Google Voice. But with them doing changes to migrate DIDs from Level3 to themselves, it makes me queezy. I had wondered if they were almost becoming an MVNO of the CLEC world because ranges that used to be Level3 became entirely Bandwidth.com owned instead of new ranges being provisioned.

They searched us out, so maybe high minimums didn't work out so well. Thanks everyone for the input. ~Jared

Beware that these two facts are not at contradictory relation to each other, unless you've specifically been told otherwise. Their prospecting / lead generation folks are perfectly happy to find leads and talk like they want your business, but then the sales folks demand high minima. That's fairly par for the course. Now, of course, with the economy being how it is and the general situation, I'm sure they're willing to come down for some people. I'm just saying, bait-and-switch between marketing and sales is not uncommon with them or anyone else. -- Alex Balashov - Principal Evariste Systems LLC 1170 Peachtree Street 12th Floor, Suite 1200 Atlanta, GA 30309 Tel: +1-678-954-0670 Fax: +1-404-961-1892 Web: http://www.evaristesys.com/
