Hi Jarrod, Our ASX Class 5 switch does not require a GSX. However, there are reasons why the potential marriage of the two in a network can be beneficial (TDM trunking and access/peering session border control out of the same chassis, interoperability, etc.). Additionally, the ASX uses and comes with the most widely deployed centralized routing engine in the world (PSX) which can also be used to unify routing for whatever third party, SIP-based systems might exist in your network. The switch-phone interop is critical, go with a switch that is a partner that your phone vendor simply can't live without.

Additionally, the ASX uses and comes with the most widely deployed centralized routing engine in the world (PSX) which can also be used to unify routing for whatever third party, SIP-based systems might exist in your network.

There are many conceptions of what constitutes "industry-standard," depending on what CAPEX you have available.
Among the popular ones are Enswitch, Metaswitch, etc.

Indeed. They have an excellent track record of buying better competitors with cheaper products in order to kill them and snuff out all remaining official support for them.

Sonus has a feature server.
The switch-phone interop is critical, go with a switch that is a partner that your phone vendor simply can't live without.

I think that BroadWorks is much better as a feature server for business customers, primarily due to the ease of use and very sensible hierarchical layout of the admin interface. It also has more features including a decently robust call center (ACD) solution. BroadWorks also has one the best device configuration file management systems available. The licensing is however very complex and costly The Metaswitch is great for residential type services where relationships between lines are less common. It also includes the Class 4 features that Broadsoft cannot do, most specifically the ISDN and SS7 features. Also some of the features that are a basic part of the BroadWorks AS/MS require separate servers and associated licenses on the MetaSwitch (device management, VM, customer web portal). That's my 2 cents. -Scott -----Original Message----- From: voiceops-bounces at voiceops.org [mailto:voiceops-bounces at voiceops.org] On Behalf Of Mark Wiles Sent: Wednesday, August 26, 2009 4:59 PM To: 'Alex Balashov' Cc: voiceops at voiceops.org Subject: Re: [VoiceOps] Class 5 Switch I have worked with BroadSoft...

There are many conceptions of what constitutes "industry-standard," depending on what CAPEX you have available.
Among the popular ones are Enswitch, Metaswitch, etc.

Another contractor cut a fiber. Took out an OC-48 SONET, don't know where the "ring" is... I am thinking about driving to the site, about 4 blocks away and asking if they need our splice kit... I know Yahoo is on the other side of the loop from us, and Intel is in the middle. Don't know how they are effected, if at all.

Indeed. They have an excellent track record of buying better competitors with cheaper products in order to kill them and snuff out all remaining official support for them.

Sonus has a feature server.
The switch-phone interop is critical, go with a switch that is a partner that your phone vendor simply can't live without.

If you go with Sonus though, bring your wallet! We speak from experience.

To run the Feature Server do you have to already have the Sonus GSX?
