Hey groupers, The Broadworks CCXML and VoiceXML functions... Use 'em? Love 'em? Hate 'em? Thanks! David

Hi David, We use the BroadWorks CCXML/VoiceXML functionality albeit in a fairly limited manner. Our primary application exists to 'deal with' some lack of functionality within the built in Voice Mail service provided within the platform, nothing fancy like enhancing it to make it talk or attempt to understand what people are saying. Have found the platform to pretty much 'just work', although troubleshooting can be somewhat chaotic, a unique combination of 'too much' and 'not enough' info sometimes - but it certainly hasn't been the most unpleasant experience. So I?ll go with ?use it?, but I can?t decide where ?it does the job, more or less' lives between ?love it? or ?hate it?. Cheers, Andrew ________________________________________ From: voiceops-bounces at voiceops.org [voiceops-bounces at voiceops.org] On Behalf Of David Hiers [hiersd at gmail.com] Sent: Wednesday, 26 May 2010 3:51 To: VoiceOps at voiceops.org Subject: [VoiceOps] BW CCXML and VoiceXML Hey groupers, The Broadworks CCXML and VoiceXML functions... Thanks for the reply! Good to know that it is solid enough to build on. David On Thu, May 27, 2010 at 9:21 AM, Andrew Bergman <acb at staff.iinet.net.au> wrote:

According to a 2007 press release, BroadSoft is using the OptimSys "OptimTalk" Media Control Resource Protocol (MCRP) stack for VoiceXML and CCXML. A 2008 public magazine article tells us that the Lumenvox Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) has been tested with BroadSoft. LumenVox uses Voice XML. I also know that this integration is being maintained by BroadWorks (very currently), so SOMEBODY cares about using it. I expect that the VoiceXML / CCXML support will be very strong in BroadWorks going forward, and that they may use it to build some of their own features in the future. (Nobody at BroadSoft has actually told me this, though.) On 5/27/10 2:30 PM, David Hiers wrote:

In my opinion, I would expect to see Broadsoft using it in the coming releases to bring some features that historically were provided by third-party products branded as Broadsoft, back into the company. I would expect them to be perhaps even removing some functionality from these kinds of components before releasing their own all-singing, all-dancing version. There are of course my opinions and not those of Broadsoft. :) Ta, Aled.

I've developed a few prototype applications using VXML/CCXML. It works pretty solid however some of the missing functionality is a bit disappointing such as lack of early media support and lack of being able to process digits via SIP INFO (although RFC 2833 works just fine). Early media is a big one as it is really useful for certain applications that require playing announcements before or without answering a call. Communicating with external web servers is fairly straight forward in VXML although I haven't played around with HTTP POST'ing in CCXML where the MS actually acts as an HTTP server to process asynchronous responses in the form of subsequent HTTP POSTs.
