Hi, What's your upgrade stance on BW's patchtool? Its recommend to upgrade it when you patch, but the thing is always running. You can't run tech-support without invoking patchtool, for instance. Don't load PB's without loading the latest patchtool first. Some of the patches in the PB will blow up if your patchtool is too old. The patchtool upgrade only takes a couple of minutes and isn't service impacting. On Aug 5, 2009, at 2:34 PM, Hiers, David wrote:

Well, sure, upgrade it before you patch. I'm thinnking about all the times that patchtool is invoked for a non-patch-changing function like bwshowver, tech-support, etc... We may start refreshing it just so the scheduled tech-supports don't run a buggy version. Why are you running tech-supports so often?

The standard set of maintenance tasks defined in the Maintenance Guide and added by default during setup runs tech-support once a day automatically and logs the output for diagnostic purposes.
From there I guess it depends how often you open tickets...

Broadworks does not automatically schedule tech-support everyday by default. When you install Broadworks the Schedular prompts you about each task, how often to run the task, and what time. The last prompt asks if you want to run tech-support once per day. In parenthesis it says (not recommended). On Aug 5, 2009, at 8:39 PM, Nathan Stratton wrote:

May want to think about that one.

Interesting, the Maintenance Guide reads the other way: Maintenance Guide Release 14.0 Document Version 18 9 Scheduled Maintenance Tasks 9.8 Tech-support The tech-support maintenance task is meant to be run on a daily basis. The output of the tech-support daily task is stored in the /var/broadworks/logs/monitoring directory. -Scott -----Original Message----- From: Mark Holloway [mailto:mh at markholloway.com] Sent: Thursday, August 06, 2009 12:04 AM To: Nathan Stratton Cc: Scott Berkman; voiceops at voiceops.org Subject: Re: [VoiceOps] broadsoft patchtool Broadworks does not automatically schedule tech-support everyday by default. I'm not doubting that you saw what you saw! I've opened several EV tickets with BW because the docs don't match the product. If the install process recommends something that conflicts with the docs, they'll want to know so they can change whichever one is wrong. Maybe give them a yell when you see it again... Anyway, we'll probably upgrade patchtool on a monthly cycle, as well as upon patching and upgrading. The upgrade for patch-tool can be run live, but I always run it in a maintenance window to be safe. Worst comes to worst if the patchtool upgrade fails your actual upgrade is delayed. This is better than running an update with an out-of-date version of patchtool that could cause the system upgrade to fail or leave things in a funky state. Plus Broadsoft TAC might scold you if you do have an issue after upgrading on an old patchtool. -Scott -----Original Message----- From: voiceops-bounces at voiceops.org [mailto:voiceops-bounces at voiceops.org] On Behalf Of Hiers, David Sent: Wednesday, August 05, 2009 5:34 PM To: voiceops at voiceops.org Subject: [VoiceOps] broadsoft patchtool Hi, What's your upgrade stance on BW's patchtool?
