Broadworks R17Sp4 to R20 upgrade

Has anyone upgraded to Broadworks R17sp4 to R20 without any issues? According to the release notes most of the new features in R20 are deactivated by default. However typically every major release is followed by a unimaginable number of patches. I upgraded from R17sp4 to R20sp1 without issue in January. Both were fully patched through December. Has been running great. -Matt -- Matthew S. Crocker President Crocker Communications, Inc. Kumudu - R20 has been out for a while and the SP1 release Matt mentions would be the correct one to go with. There are always bugs but BSFT is pretty good at getting a good release the first time ? if they miss something its almost always caught in the first service patch release (SP1). Kumudu, We have upgraded from R17sp4 to R20sp1 last year. We discovered a couple major bugs and a few small ones. They are all patched now. Lucky you :-) A couple of things worth noting: Pay attention to clients support in R20sp1; especially if you are still using thick clients. Anticipate a significant change in the way broadsoft handles announcements. If you are using SIPrec, expect a slight change in the way the AS handles SDP. It seems to play a more active role by changing the order of codecs. Good luck! *Brad Anouar* *Director of Systems Engineering* *Email **brad.anouar at masergy.com <brad.anouar at masergy.com>* *Office *+1 310 360 2028 *www.m <http://www.masergy.com/>**asergy.com <http://www.masergy.com/>* On Mar 13, 2015 5:05 AM, "Kumudu Suriyaarachchi" <ksuriyaarachchi at alteva.com> wrote:

Hi If using Redhat 6, be careful as the basic install didnt work for us (we QA'ed RH6 install for BS) and needed a new installation patch (IP) and few other tweaks here and there. You will have to work with TAC to get that working. Ujjval Karihaloo On Fri, Mar 13, 2015 at 12:04 PM, Brad Anouar <brad.anouar at masergy.com> wrote:

Hi Kumudu, We have not upgraded (from 18SP1) to 20SP1 after discovering some issues during lab-testing. Since BroadWorks can be used in many different ways, these issues may or not impact you. 1) The ProfileServer replication silently fails copying device file-repos to it's peers. 2) Another issue is with Polycom VVX Phones and the VVX Camera. If your users have BroadWorks N-Way, and the VVX Camera attached, the N-Way call will fail to engage in most call-scenarios. 3) Lastly, the bw-preUpgradeCheck-Rel_20-438231 falsely reports a DBS(maybe others) system as "SUCCESSFUL" even if the host does not have sufficient disk space. All three issues have been confirmed by TAC Tier-3. Since the first 2 issues are important for us, we're not upgrading until they release patches. Hope that helps a little, and good luck! -- Jessie Bryan VP Engineering Impulse Advanced Communications Website: www.impulse.net Phone: 805 884 6317 twitter: @jessiebryan -- ----- Original Message -----

What are the main highlights of 20SP1 vs R17sp4? Seems like many Broadsoft shops are making this upgrade jump, but what is the reason for it? Did Broadsoft finally say 17 will no longer be supported, and its time to upgrade? Was there an version 18 and 19? On Fri, Mar 13, 2015 at 4:58 PM, Jessie Bryan <jessie at impulse.net> wrote:

Thanks guys! Your responses will help me a lot. Support for R17sp4 ended in December 2014 officially. BroadSoft is pushing to upgrade to R21 avoiding R18 and R19. Based on the feature set you use you may be good with R18/R19.
