We've come across some legacy customers that have directory listings through us (or, well, at least we're paying Frontier for them). 1. Are those a thing in the VoIP space? Can I go to {insert SIP provider here} and they can place directory listings, unpublish numbers, etc.? 2. Are directories a thing anywhere anymore? I haven't seen a new one in probably 15 years. I understand that I'm not the target demographic, but I'm not even sure where I'd go (short of Googling) to get one. Are we paying for something that has no benefit anymore? ----- Mike Hammett Intelligent Computing Solutions http://www.ics-il.com Midwest Internet Exchange http://www.midwest-ix.com

Bandwidth lets us do listings for a small charge. I have no idea on question 2, outside of very old people. We have a funeral home company that insists on being listed. That tells me something. On Aug 21, 2023 at 3:16:54?PM, Mike Hammett via VoiceOps < voiceops at voiceops.org> wrote:

I am old (retired) and my wife loves them :-) But we just moved to CA and we have gotten a couple local ones anyway. Back in the 80?s I did the database for YPPA - Yellow Page Publishers Association. If memory serves their were over a million different combinations of publishers and directories. I don't know.? But, see also: whatever 411 is/does/used to be.

My employer has published a phone book every year for many decades.? It's fun to look through old ones to find your childhood phone number, relatives, businesses that used to exist, etc. Every year they put a few pictures of employees around the book, which is fun for us.? Well, unless a full color photo of you doing "work" in a CO is featured on the back cover.? I've heard talk that the last one they published, might be the last.? Or maybe it won't be /every/ year any more. I use mine at least weekly.? But I'm also referencing information other than phone numbers.? For example, we have a few pages discussing our * codes, with a handy table.

Directory Listing orders have always been submitted through the LECs LSR system, but I don't believe you can submit an order unless you're leasing or reselling one of their lines. A facilities based carrier can write a directory only LSR for numbers on their network. I also had nationwide access to the AT&T LSR system to write orders for any number I'm reselling, nationwide, with my ITSP OCN that I got back in like, 2005 or something like that. AT&T will happily sign a directory listing only agreement, or at least they would a decade ago. It provided access to Verigate CSR/Directory listing features, as well as LEX. -Paul

*nods* and that's where we work Frontier's system, via VFO's LSR system. We do it for numbers we have in our allocation. I just didn't know if in the VoIP space, any of the providers would proxy that request. ----- Mike Hammett Intelligent Computing Solutions http://www.ics-il.com Midwest Internet Exchange http://www.midwest-ix.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mary Lou Carey" <marylou at backuptelecom.com> To: "Mike Hammett" <voiceops at ics-il.net> Cc: "voiceops" <voiceops at voiceops.org> Sent: Wednesday, August 23, 2023 1:17:03 PM Subject: Re: [VoiceOps] Directory Listings Directory Listing orders have always been submitted through the LECs LSR system, but I don't believe you can submit an order unless you're leasing or reselling one of their lines.
