TDM SS7 <-> SIP with Cisco, Dialogic IMG1010 and/or AudioCodes Mediant gear...

Gday folks. I'm looking at some TDM SS7 to SIP options to interconnect our BroadSoft/ACME SBC platform to a more traditional SS7/TDM telco. We have been checking out a PGW based solution, and also some of the more 'gateway' type devices (such as those from Dialogic and/or AudioCodes...) Whilst this may seem a very 'open ended' question has anyone had any hands on dealing with these solutions that can highlight any potential concerns and/or positive experiences? Cheers, Peter

Hi Peter, I've got a lot of experience in the past with both the PGW solutions (nightmares many many nightmares) and I've also used the IMG1010 solution which works very well(also depends on how many e1's or E3's your bringing in for scaling obviously). Haven't seen the price points of cisco's PGW solution recently but i know the IMG1010's have come down a lot in price as well. One of the nice things about the IMG's is the ability to "manage" multiple IMG's from one control box (gcems) very effectively. Colin On Aug 18, 2009, at 10:50 PM, Peter Childs wrote:

You might want to look a Squire (http://www.squire-technologies.co.uk/) as well unless you want to go as far as a full switch/gateway platform that includes SS7 functions such as Sonus, Metaswitch, Lucent, etc. It may also be a good idea to ask Broadsoft about SS7 options they may have from their recent purchases including Genband as it should already be interoped and they would be able to support it for you and. -Scott -----Original Message----- From: voiceops-bounces at voiceops.org [mailto:voiceops-bounces at voiceops.org] On Behalf Of Colin Sent: Tuesday, August 18, 2009 10:57 PM To: Peter Childs Cc: voiceops at voiceops.org Subject: Re: [VoiceOps] TDM SS7 <-> SIP with Cisco, Dialogic IMG1010 and/or AudioCodes Mediant gear... I've had some very, very, very bad experiences with Squire's SIP stack. -- Alex Balashov - Principal Evariste Systems Web : http://www.evaristesys.com/ Tel : (+1) (678) 954-0670 Direct : (+1) (678) 954-0671

What kind of issues did you hit? I have been looking at them for a few solutions in the past but have not done heavy interop work. What about Aculab? They have their groomer box that they say works pretty well with a ton of different signaling systems. I don't remember anymore, I just know a pretty thick B2BUA and/or SBC had to be put in front of it so that it wouldn't be an embarrassment on a SIP 101 sort of level. We were using a proxy before, which is a thinner interop layer. I also didn't know that Squire had boxes that could take hard SS7 links; I thought all of their SS7-side stuff was actually IP (SIGTRAN)? Don't know anything about Aculab. RJ Auburn wrote:

Peter, We've been running a Cisco PGW solution for several years now to interconnect our Cisco AS5400's and AS5350's to our Nortel GSP via SS7. So far without any major problems. It's not the most friendliest of platforms if your going to be making frequent changes to the configuration, but its been solid for us (knock on wood). We have redundant PGW's which makes maintenance easier. We also recently began running Dialogic CSP's with SS7 as part of our Entice Softswitch. How much capacity are you looking to build out? -Keith On 8/18/09 10:50 PM, "Peter Childs" <pchilds at internode.com.au> wrote:

Sonus is good. Expensive, but take a long term look at what you can do with all those slots... David On Tue, Aug 18, 2009 at 7:50 PM, Peter Childs<pchilds at internode.com.au> wrote:
