Hi guys, Would love to hear some (off list) experiences about working with O1 Communications. We've got customers on our *** today after PacWest had a most-of-the-working-day outage. I'm considering moving our California-based origination to them. Lemme know, thanks. - Darren

My impression of them is very positive; they're a good bunch of folks. We are not an ITSP and I buy no services from them, but we have been a vendor to them several times, although not in a while. They pay their bills, and seem to have it together. I was generally impressed with the technical calibre of the people (at least, who were there at the time--this was a few years ago now). Moreover, they have a fairly large, technically sophisticated operation with decent infrastructure, definitely not a cobbled-together kind of place. At the time I last enquired or had a chance to inspect, they had killer rates in their large California footprint, for orig and term, that are unlikely to be matched by anyone else. In fact, I'm pretty sure that most of the large resellers, for whom California is off-net, buy from them. -- Alex On 01/22/2013 05:20 PM, Darren Schreiber wrote:

This is a clumsy sentence. I did not mean that California is off-net for large resellers, but that those for whom it _is_ off-net most likely buy from O1. -- Alex Balashov - Principal Evariste Systems LLC 235 E Ponce de Leon Ave Suite 106 Decatur, GA 30030 United States Tel: +1-678-954-0670 Web: http://www.evaristesys.com/, http://www.alexbalashov.com/

We have been using O1 for a few years now for California toll. Our first experiences with quality were less than stellar. In fact we got to a point where we were intentionally routing our sensitive customers away from them in advance. We experienced a turnaround with them though several months back but it required high-level conversations with mid/senior management at their company as well as with their senior engineers. Since that time we have noticed improved quality and we continue to route California toll to them. I would also mention that when we first started using them we were routing both CA termination and TF. We noticed in particular that their TF termination was really problematic (call quality and dtmf issues) so we made an early decision to not route TF to them and have not re-evaluated this decision since. In light of their improved CA termination, it may be time for us to do so. ADAM BAIRD | SR. We use O1 for full US termination. They use resellers for anywhere they are not OnNet obviously and just proxy the media. So the SIP signaling can be misleading. I thought they were using Sonus equipment for a while, but then realized I saw Nortel like and Freeswitch signaling information in the SIP signalling. So they are only rewriting the media IP and not cleaning up the rest of the signaling. Their support is top notch. I have had no problems with contacting their NOC and getting someone who can trace down a call right then and there. Call quality suffered a little bit when HE was being oversold further up the line and it seems that they use a lot of HE bandwidth. We rerouted the packets to avoid HE, and the problems cleared right up. Please note that we have used them for termination only and not for origination.
