Hey all, for those running SBC's (Acmes, Sonus, nCites) and NOT using Broadsoft, how many of you guys have dealt with Edgemarc at the client edge? Just about all positive. Great feature set, reliable, predictable ALG behavior, great support, great DMARC for testing and troubleshooting a VOIP service. I've also used them with other platforms such as Metaswitch. -----Original Message----- From: voiceops-bounces at voiceops.org [mailto:voiceops-bounces at voiceops.org] On Behalf Of J. I've got an Edgemarc 250w at my desk that I keep at my desk and use for all my testing that I quite enjoy. Our main system is a Metaswitch behind an Acme Packet SBC. Also to a Sylantro platform behind the Acme SBC as well. I mainly keep it in front of an Elastix PBX for SIP trunking. --- Brandon P. Upside: The boxes work. Support is good. Downside: No CLI to speak of. Features, interfaces, and call capacity limited by license. We have for the most part abandoned Edgewater for the Adtran Netvanta 3120 and/or TA900 series units. No per-call or per-feature license issues to deal with on the Adtran, ten-year warranty and very feature-rich. -- Jay Hennigan - CCIE #7880 - Network Engineering - jay at impulse.net Impulse Internet Service - http://www.impulse.net/ Your local telephone and internet company - 805 884-6323 - WB6RDV

To expand on what Jay is saying here about the CLI, Edgemarcs do in fact have a full CLI in that it's an embedded Linux box. If you know your way around Linux, you can look at interfaces, check the configuration files, restart processes, and use tcpdump (their version is actually tweaked to help read SIP captures). Or anything else you normally do in Linux. What it does not have is a cli in the Cisco IOS industry standard sense for modifying the config or expect-based API integration. It's possible to change settings from the CLI by editing files and then restarting the proper service or script, but Edgewater generally recommends against this. They do offer a config backup/load process and an EMS that can push changes in bulk and do some cool remote capture and call quality monitoring things. -----Original Message----- From: voiceops-bounces at voiceops.org [mailto:voiceops-bounces at voiceops.org] On Behalf Of Jay Hennigan Sent: Tuesday, March 13, 2012 12:54 PM To: voiceops at voiceops.org Subject: Re: [VoiceOps] Edgemarc Experiences On 3/13/12 7:28 AM, J. Correct, but a bit awkward for a network device in my opinion.

True. I was referring to the lack of the IOS-like interface as well as lack of typical show and debug commands, RANCID capture, etc.
They do offer a config backup/load process and an EMS that can push changes in bulk and do some cool remote capture and call quality monitoring things.
Ditto Adtran as well as powerful GUI call quality monitoring built in, showing MOS, reason for degradation etc. with no extra EMS needed (but they offer one too). -- Jay Hennigan - CCIE #7880 - Network Engineering - jay at impulse.net Impulse Internet Service - http://www.impulse.net/ Your local telephone and internet company - 805 884-6323 - WB6RDV
