CALEA ECFS Mandatory Filings - one more requirement to know about

I just want to give everyone one more heads-up about an upcoming change I was just notified of. Beginning 30 days after the new rule is published, you need to start filing your CALEA SSI plan online. If you have an FCC login, you should already have access to the CALEA filing system (CEFS). It shows up as an option in the boxes below on this page. https://www.fcc.gov/licensing-databases/fcc-user-login For those of you who aren't familiar with CALEA, it basically notifies the law enforcement agencies what your procedures are so that when they need to request surveillance from your network they know who to contact and how to do it. For more information on CALEA filings see: https://www.fcc.gov/calea Also below is the announcement and link for the order. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- On May 15, 2023, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC)'s Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau issued an Order amending the FCC's rules to now require electronic filing of new and updated System Security and Integrity Policies and Procedures (SSI Plans) under the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act (CALEA). The updated rule will become effective 30 days after publication of the FCC Order in the Federal Register. After publication in the Federal Register, the FCC will issue a Public Notice to announce the specific date for mandatory electronic filing of SSI Plans. Covered entities, which include telecommunications carriers, facilities-based broadband internet access providers, and interconnected Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) providers will be required to file SSI Plans in the new CALEA Electronic Filing System (CEFS). Filers can continue to choose to voluntarily file their SSI Plan electronically in CEFS or by paper until the new rule becomes effective, after which paper filings will no longer be accepted. Covered entities that already filed their SSI Plans by paper will not be required to re-file them electronically unless their SSI Plans need to be updated. All providers subject to CALEA must file SSI Plans before beginning service and must file any updates within 90 days of changes to a filed plan. Here is a link to the FCC's May 15, 2023 Order.
