Anyone know if this is true, or is this fake? I see it's starting to be widely reported, but it seems odd to me. Audiocodes Mediant 2000 - BootP

Hey guys, I have one particular Audiocodes Mediant 2000 SIP / ISDN gateway. It seems that it doesn't have firmware on it, as it simply sits there sending BootP requests. ( found by watching packet captures from its ethernet ) Does anyone have any insight into the DHCP options AudioCodes require, to make these guys grab a new firmware via TFTP ? I've got BootP responses going back to it, but for the life of me, I can not make it request anything over TFTP. I have looked at trying the Audiocodes TFTP/Boop application, but the version I have won't run on any recent windows. if anyone has the BootP application ( and how to make it run ), that would be great. if you have any info on how to make the device grab a new firmware via standard DHCP / TFTP config that would also be brilliant. On another note, the manual says this has a serial port. does anyone know where to find this ?? :) -- Sincerely Jay Binks

Thoughts on Skype for Business

Overall, what are service providers thoughts on Skype for Business? Looks like in late 2015 they gave office 365 users with certian plans the ability to use Polycom Phones with their service (using the could PBX features), and a nice handy tool to assign DIDs in realtime to users. They also have the ability to port numbers in. Now in preview, they are adding auto attendants and hunt group functionaility. Once this is GA, I think this will be a viable competetior to the Broadsoft and Metaswitch shops out there. What are you overall thoughts? Pricing is a bit expensive, but you get so many services for the price it might be hard to compete. No to mention video calling with billions of users, chatting with all skype users, etc...

Sprint Routing/Translations contact?

We have a customer who has a number that their customers that are on Sprint cell phones (and also other CDMA providers who are roaming on Sprint) can't call. They get a message "Message 12, Switch 2410" and a request to try again later. Other Sprint callers can reach other numbers on our network just fine. The calls to this number from Sprint callers never reach our switch. Our customer has asked their customers who are having this trouble to try to put tech support tickets in to see if they can get resolution that way. Does anyone know of any other contact or way to get a resolution to this? Thanks -- Joe Kowalski BendTel

Good day everyone, I was told that VoiceOps.org was a great place to begin discussions and conversations with other carriers about Voice Over IP subjects, and hope I am not breaking any rules for this forum. I am being tasked with suggesting several models of IP phones for a small hotel in Texas in which we are providing it with their Internet Service. Hi, some aspects of what you describe looks like the effects of Over-The-Top (OTT) bypass. This is a recent type of interconnect fraud, where regular international calls are hijacked and terminated on the OTT application installed on callee's phone. In this case, the gateway between the bypassing transit operator and the OTT network may increase the PDD. However, this effect is usually concealed with a ring tone. That could explain why you have 20+ seconds of ring time, but no connection at the other end. Long PDD to Israel

Hey guys -- long time no email! We've been experiencing super long PDD and connection timeouts dialing +972 (israel). we've sent traffic to bandwidth (10-11 seconds of pdd, followed by ring of 20+ seconds and no connection at the other end we've sent traffic to L3 direct and its just a little bit better but still longer that one would expect. i've called several numbers with my ATT mobile (not connected to our switch in any way) also long pdd or connection times. Does anyone know if something changed within Israel to cause such long pdd's? seems to be with all many of our carriers. All other international destinations seem to work fine. thanks! shri

I tend to see a 503 as a symptom of a critical situation (per cpu/cps/license threshold breach). And I would consider 503 spikes a decent canary for a sip trunk coal mine. Others view 503s as business as usual, specifically in LCR arrangements, and don't alarm/study them What's the general idea behind industry best practice? E.g. 503 simply signifies another route should be taken, or 503 is cause for a remedy? Sent from my Windows 10 phone

Using mobile/SS7/IS-41 data to track a missing person

A bit of a deviation from the usual fare for the list, but I hope it is close enough to being on-topic that it doesn?t get dropped. A close friend of mine has asked me whether there is any data or meta-data (aside from device-based GPS info) that would help in tracking a missing person (a relative). The person travelled outside of their home country to Italy and then Malta. Their belief is that the person made contact with someone locally in one or both countries and that they would have used the mobile. This was back in September, so some time has already passed from the last known contact, but they are looking to at least validate their assumptions regarding the last known location, maybe even to the level of the mobile tower ? if this data is available. My high level understanding of mobile internetworking is that once the device attempted to registered on the local, the local network would need to make a query to the ?home? network to allow services (inbound/outbound/etc). So in the least, the home provider would have some sort of trace of which network/country the device is registering at. What would they (or the police which at the locality isn?t very tech-savvy) be asking the mobile provider to investigate/provide? Any other telecom data that they could use ? (They?ve already made requests to access information on Facebook, Yahoo and Google accounts which the person may have used) Any assistance is appreciated and apologies if this is too far off topic.
