I just got a pretty sophisticated voice-response robocall. Caller: "Hello is Jen there?" (My wife's name. Coincidence or intentional?) Me: "I'm sorry, Who is this?" Caller: "Oh sorry I was calling for either of you. This is Debbie [something] and I'm calling about ... [sales pitch for something]" Me: "Excuse me, could you tell me what 5 plus 7 is?" Caller: "Oh well then I'll call back later, OK?" Me: "No." Caller: "OK, bye." Now I could tell that these were recordings pretty quickly, but I had to throw a Turing Test at it to be sure. The call and audio quality was good, and frankly, I was impressed, right until the anger flooded in about it being a robocall. Anyone else experience the same? Future of the Traditional PSTN vs VOIP and VoLTE

Aloha Group, I'm curious to know others thoughts on where they believe the traditional PSTN is going vs VOIP and VoLTE. Now that Iconnectiv will be administering the LNP in the US I feel as though it's the best time to try and propose new or more up to date solutions that allow smaller carriers to operate. For example there is no charge to have the ability to port numbers in NPAC, but there is a monthly charge for the remote access to the NPAC. Then the interconnectivity at the LEC level. The archaic ways of telecom have not seemed to change much although VOIP is now in my opinion the standard of telecom. VOIP will soon be able to get code blocks and route via SIP vs SS7 and LERG. LERG, ASR/LSR, SS7 all systems owned by one monopolizing company. Erik F. VoLTE vs UMA (GAN)

Good day, would it be valid to compare VoLTE vs UMA/GAN, and if so what would be the differences? My 10,000 feet view is that UMA/GAN is an older techology for switching voice between WiFi data channel and an actual GSM/3G voice channel. Whereas VoLTE is a fairly recent spec and it switches between WiFi and LTE, both being IP data channels, sort of like your 'eth0' and 'eth1'. I guess both integrate heavily into core mobile network and into headset OS, and would offer similar user experience? Both can be leveraged by either MNO or MVNO, but not by some sort of over-the-top app? Many thanks! -Victor

And has a pay-per-page model, not a X number of pages included per month. Is anyone having success deploying HPBX over DSL? ?Not service providers that own the plant but those of you using another providers DSL. ?Have you been successful? ?If so what were the engineering guidelines you used? ?What were the tolerances you used? ?Any feedback would be very welcomed.

USF and Minimum Billing

Hey Folks -- I've got a carrier to which I've made a minimum commitment. I didn't get around to getting my spend up to the commit, and when my contract renewed, they billed me a minimum commit fee. Understandable, and I'm fine paying it. I didn't get anything for it -- zero telecom-related services. However, they also charged the USF percentage on the minimum fee. The Language from the FCC leads me to believe that this carrier's assessment of the USF on minimum billing is incorrect and illegal, as that fee is not interstate nor international end-user revenues. For specific detail, FCC Form 499-Q item 115 clearly states that the USF is to be taxed on: "Telecommunications provided to other universal service contributors for resale as telecommunications or as interconnected VoIP" The minimum fee is not telecommunications. Additionally Form 499-A for Line 418 states: "Line 418. ? Other revenues that should not be reported in the contribution bases; Non-interconnected VoIP Revenues. Line 418 should include all non-telecommunications service revenues on the filer?s books, as well as some revenues that are derived from telecommunications-related functions, but that should not be included in the universal service or other fund contribution bases. For example, information services offering a capability for generating, acquiring, storing, transforming, processing, retrieving, utilizing, or making available information via telecommunications are not included in the universal service or other fund contribution bases." Anyone else experience this? Or have any background? I do not believe the carrier should charge me nor pay the FCC the USF on non-telecom fees. Any Telecom lawyers out there? VoIP Service Providers Market Research report

Hello all, I recently downloaded a market research report from Voiplogic. I'm sure that some of you know that they are a wholesale application service provider that sells class 4 and 5 services to service providers. I found the report pretty enlightening (and free). You just need to take a survey to get it. I would be interested to see what others in this group think about the state of Hosted PBX, UC, UCaaS, etc. Some of the major bullet points are listed in VoipLogic's press release: http://www.voiplogic.com/dec-1-2015-2015-voip-service-providers-market-rese… along with the link to the survey. I would like to actually see what Peter Rad, thinks of the sales stuff in the report. In particular this statement: *"Low touch sales methods ? primarily web-based selling ? are dropping while high touch sales methods such as Direct and through Value-Added Resellers ? are growing. This is, in turn, increases the cost of customer acquisition. That Service Providers appear to perceive value from the personal assistance of direct sales and customer service support may be explained by the increasing complexity of Unified Communication and Collaboration."* I'm wondering if others see the same trend? it just seems to go against another figure in the report that states that price is the most important factor in sales and marketing success. I don't see how you can be a solution sales organization and still think that price is the most important thing. anyway, it was by and large good read with a lot of information. Shri
