Enterprise customer desiring NAT for their SIP

We have an enterprise customer that wants to trial our SIP trunking service. They're using Cisco Call Manager v8.5 and I tried to get them to use a public IP or a private VLAN to our network, but he insists that they want to keep their CCM behind their NATing firewall. Our softswitch has an integrated SBC, so our side is covered, but I'm afraid that they may run into some issues that are related to NAT but that we'll be held responsible. Should I continue to push back on this customer, or let them go down this road? Regards, Frank

e911 warning stickers on phones

I'm trying to figure out the FCC requirements for 911 service warning stickers. The FCC documents are rather vague. They say a sticker is required "if there are limitations to the provider's 911 service" but then don't define what constitutes a limitation. Is the fact that the end user can move a handset a "limitation?" Is the likelihood of a power outage also causing a phone outage a "limitation?" So I'm wondering what other hosted service providers are doing? Also, if you provide SIP service to on-premises equipment, do you ship a huge batch of stickers to the customer? Or just include an e911 warning in the contract? Wording of stickers? How do you make them small and unobtrusive on a phone? I considered something that goes under the handset, but that's a small space. Is "E911 WARNING: See this URL" going to be sufficient and compliant? -- Carlos Alvarez TelEvolve 602-889-3003

Toll Free Termination providers

hi all, does anyone have a good recommendation for a toll free origination carrier? i'm looking for sub .01/min. I used to have a carrier that provided .009/min. looking for a reliable carrier that can still hit those numbers. i'm just shy of 300K Min, very little Canada, Carribean, and Mexico, but it is a requirement. thanks in advance!

Call Rate Limiting / Blocking (AcmePacket + Broadsoft NS)

I'm looking for input from other voice providers: We have an off-net number that periodically floods our network with inbound calls. When this happens our NS ( Broadsoft) often reaches or exceeds the number of available licenses. The end result is that new call requests fail until the call volume decreases. This usually last for 5-10 seconds. We have a cluster of AcmePacket SBCs in front of Broadworks. Does anyone know if it is possible to limit the calls per second on a dynamic originating number? I say this as the originating caller might be 555-555-1111 for 10 minutes, then another flood of calls originates from 444-444-2222 a few hours later. We believe these to be from the same caller due to the IVR message presented. If it is possible would the AcmePacket SBC perform this as an HMR in software, or would the SBC hardware handle this? If the SBC cannot do this, is it possible to perform some sort of dynamic rate limiting on a Broadsoft NS and send a failure response code w/a reason code after a metric is breached? Any other suggestions would be great. The last question involves legal implication of blocking a number. Assume that we blocked all calls from 555-555-1111 at our SBC. Two weeks from now Customer A opens a trouble ticket that their customer cannot call them. Of course the company's main line happens to be 555-555-1111. Is there any FCC rule or regulation that would limit this. I'm trying to find something in Title 47 of the Code of Federal Regulations. Thanks! Keith

Terminating 800 traffic with Caller ID of an 800 #

Hi folks, We have a customer who is insisting on setting their outbound Caller ID to an 800 #. They are complaining that they can't call other 800 #s. Our testing reveals that many carriers are refusing to route the call when the Caller ID is set as an 800 #. In addition, if we try setting the ANI as one number via the From: header and then add a remote party ID header as Caller ID, it seems that most carriers use the From: and deliver that as the Caller ID to the alternate/receiving 800 #. Any thoughts on this? I am aware that it's up to the receiving 800 # to decide what NPAs to allow through and that what they're proposing complicates billing, so I suspect I just need to tell the client to deal, but they are insisting that this used to work on their PRI. My theory is that it did not work on their PRI but nobody ever noticed before. - Darren

ATA CPE and RFC2833

Gday folks. I'm working through one of those lovely DTMF issues and have notice that a particular CPE that is experiencing a DTMF fault on our network sends both rfc2833 rtp packets _and_ the tone in audio stream (not named rtp packets, but how the device has 'heard' the tones from the originating handset). Just wondering if this sounds 'normal', or is common, or is broken. It appears to be causing the media-gateway on our end to sends some pretty awful junk to line (ds0) that is not recognised by most 'PSTN' connected equipment. Thoughts or comments? Canadian postal code to ratecenter mappings?

Hello all, I am presently embroiled in a project extending our reach as a service provider into Canada but I am running into some data issues. Does anyone out there know of a data source that can map Canadian postal codes to their respective ratecenters, much as the lerg does for the US? Any help is much appreciated. -Ryan

Translation Contacts for Verizon Wireless and Sprint

Anyone have the number for the translations department at Verizon Wireless and Sprint? I have a client whose having routing problems with only Verizon Wireless and Sprint calls so I'm thinking these two companies haven't added the new NXX to their routing tables.
