Greetings, I am wondering what you folks out there do when a customer needs their voice service providers to be PCI compliant. We use many ITSPs over the public internet and it doesn't seem that any of them support any type of SRTP. Do we need to step back and go TDM to our ULC for 'secure' customers? Anyone know of any good inbound/outbound ITSP that is PCI compliant AND supports SRTP over the public network? Thanks in advance.

We have a customer in Northeast Georgia that currently has their phone service through an ILEC who I have been told will not sign the sharing agreements with the underlying VOIP networks, and therefore no one that I can find has any rate centers in that area. Also, the VOIP carriers have not been willing to do a off network port request, which when refused would allow me to continue forward on a complaint with the regulatory bodies. The underlying VOIP network companies have told me that they have Local Number Portability departments to work through this stuff, and I need to work with my higher level carriers to get a case opened with their LNP departments before they will talk to me. The higer level carriers are telling me they don't know what to do because they have never run into this before. Does anyone have any experience working through this mess? This sounds very similar to something we've seen before. Feel free to contact me to look at specifics, but the basic gist of it is this: ILECs don't have to interconnect with VOIP carriers. Period. They usually do not do so. ILECs do have to interconnect with CLECs. However, smaller rural ILECs have plenty of barriers that they erect to try to wear the CLEC down so they'll give up before they succeed. But in the end, they have to do it. Once a CLEC is interconnected with the ILEC, they will have to port numbers back and forth. The CLEC can then serve the VOIP provider and provide the service you seek. The #1 factor here is economy of scale. You've got to have enough business in this ILEC territory to justify the cost and effort that the CLEC is going to have to exert on your behalf. If you've got 50 residential customers, that isn't going to cut it. I'd say a $5000.00 MRC to the CLEC is about the bare minimum it would take to get us to do it again. We have done it before, and we're providing service in some small rural ILEC areas now in exactly this fashion. How to get XO to remove a ported-out number?

We have a customer who moved their toll-free numbers from XO to us over a week ago. When this customer was served by them, XO had a backup route in place so that if the primary path failed, calls would complete to the executives' cell phones for emergencies such as a PRI circuit cut, PBX failure, etc. After the port, everything works except that whenever an XO customer dials the toll-free number it rings the executive's cell phone. It seems that XO hasn't torn town their interior routing. This is annoying to our customer and their callers. Trying to explain the nature of the problem to XO first-level support and getting them to act on it is becoming somewhat futile. Having our customer ask their random callers who are XO customers to open tickets is likewise somewhat awkward. Toll free SIP termination

I'm looking for a SIP carrier that will provide reliable termination of toll free traffic and pass ANI info correctly (this part is important). Also I want it to be free :) Several companies claim to provide this, who's actually using what and are you happy with it? Low volume--currently about 3500 minutes per month. Thanks!

Hey David have you tested the following scenarios: 1) Out of area Cell phone roams into the affected market(s) 2) Assigning a Wash DC DID to a phone in your PDX market and testing with a PDX cell phone. In the first case the out of area phone will use a TLDN that is typically a non-cellular DID (it is typically part of the wireline network for the wireless carrier). The second scenario should remove the local market handoff between the cell carriers and level3. You might also try a Wash DC assigned cell phone used in PDX to the Wash DC DID. We had a similar problem with Nextel phones to Level3 DID's which turned out to be a SIP trunk issue between Sprint and Level3 (it was on Sprint's side). We had to get Level3 to open a ticket with Sprint for testing. Hi folks, I want to send out another shout regarding an on-going issue in the DC area. We've got excessive audio delay between our voip phones and cell phones. Packet specs (loss, jitter, etc) are fine, ping times for everything rock. Specifically, these rate centers are involved: DALE CITY HERNDON MANASSAS WSNGTNZN08 WSNGTNZN17 but NOT this nearby one: TRIANGLE Here are some of the voip NPA/NXXs involved: 703647 703880 703508 703647 240283 The issue affects any cell in the area. All our test calls are local; the cell phone is in the same building as the voip phone. The cell phone has and has strong signal. We've measured audio latency of up to 550ms; it is just impossible to hold a conversation. In all cases: 1. VOIP-to-CELL calls are slower than CELL-to-VOIP 2. 3G is slower than GSM 3. PSTN-VOIP calls are good 4. PSTN-CELL calls are good 5 Only VOIP-CELL calls are bad Anyone got any issues in the DC area? Would your users report this kind of problem? The DC area comes in near the bottom of the list on most of the "bad cell phone area" studies, so most cell users there have had tolerance of this sort of thing beat into them over the years.
