Is anyone aware of a certification program for Carrier VoIP? I know Cisco has some things -- but they're focused on Cisco-flavored VoIP, not the multivendor stuff we do here (Metaswitch / BroadWorks / Acme Packet / Cisco / Taqua / Sonus / Nortel / Polycom / Linksys / Aastra / etc.). It's been a while since I've looked at the call control interface in any detail, but I think the application itself maintained a single connection and communicated over that connection. I think it depends what you're planning on using it for. In my case, I wanted to use it for call traffic analysis (ex. calls volumes to NPAs, gateways, etc) and troubleshooting tools for our repair departments. I had developed a perl module for FreeRadius that would store the CDRs into a reporting and troubleshooting database which worked out fairly well. However, the licensing model that Broadsoft uses for the Radius interface isn't very "efficient" and has been a major problem for our deployment. It seems Broadsoft only anticipates customers using the Radius interface for enhanced call logging and billing and prices it around that which makes it an expensive feature to use solely for network analysis. Other than the licensing issues, the interface works fairly well. Utility for Splitting MGCP Calls from large packetcaptures?

I know using Wireshark it seems to print a GUI latter for MGCP calls however when trying to apply a filter for the packets based on the "VoIP Calls" section for some reason my experience has been that it doesn't work (haven't tried on any newer releases of Wireshark in a while). You'll likely need to write your own using libpcap or BASH/Perl scripting around tethereal. The main challenge is that the endpoint IDs in an MGCP messages are only sent in the MGCP requests but not on the response which means you need to find all the TIDs/IPs/etc belonging to the endpoint transactions you're interested in and then find all the associated response packets based on TIDs and IPs. Broadsoft Device Identity Profiles

Have a question about how Broadsoft handles Device Identity Profile files at the System and Group Levels ....were running R14sp9. I defined several custom Device Identity Profile Types (Aastra 57i 's) at the System Level and uploaded the corresponding config files for button layouts of the various phone types we deploy (Admin SCA, Standard Phone, Public Phone, etc). The thing I'm finding strange is at the Group level if I use one of the custom Device Identity Profile Types, then I upload a custom config file under the Identity/Device Profile Modify/Configure tab, the file that's written to the Provisioning Server is the System Level File and not the custom file I loaded via the Identity/Device Profile Modify/Configure tab. I mean it's not the end of the world if you allow file customization at the System Level when uploading the config file for the new Device Identity Profile, then upload the custom config under the "files" tab in the Identity/Device Profile Modify page, but you would think that the more specific group config would trump the system config file and Broadworks would have the "Configure Tab" grayed out or disabled to avoid confusion. The real kicker is the "Configure Tab" will not only allows you to upload a custom config, but rebuild the file and reset the phone too, with the end result being the rebuilt file is the "system file" not the custom file that Broadworks allows you to upload. Extension Mobility Issues.

Hello, It would be a good idea to connect the phone into either a hub or a switch with port mirroring capabilities and use a PC/laptop with a sniffer (such as Wireshark/Ethereal) to see what traffic is RX'ing/TX'ing to/from the device. Perhaps an ancillary function of the phone is failing (DHCP, BOOTP, DNS, HTTP, etc.) which causes the hang.
