Players in the US SMS Game / Market

I built and ran operations for a Ringtone company back in 2004-2005, so I have some experience with SMSCs, DLRs, and how SMS generally works. However, over the years, there seems to be a lot of different players in the game, some aggregators, some called something else, and honestly I cannot seem to find any good, well-written, recent information on how and where SMS messages flow in the US. The players I am talking about are NOT the Tier 0 carriers (e.g. Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile, AT&T, US Mobile), and not the CLECs/ILECs we all might work with (Level3, Bandwidth, Inteliquent/Sinch). I'm looking for what companies/vendors might touch SMS messaging that runs between the 3 major US Wireless networks (I believe THEY are all interconnected directly, but maybe not) and all the other SMS-enabled DIDs and Short Codes that are outside of those wireless networks. Here are players I know about, but I do not know what they do and what other carriers use these players and why: - NetNumber - Syniverse - Neustar - SAP - Sybase - TNS Then we have the confusing SMS routing side: ESPID, AltSPID, VSPID, NetNumberID. Back in 2015 a post to VoiceOps stated: "Syniverse and SAP are working with NeuStar to make use of the AltSPID field in NPAC for SMS routing as an alternative to NetNumber. This is expected by the end of the year. If you have wireline number block assignments which are SMS enabled, you may be facing a monthly per-number fee from NetNumber come January 1st. I suggest anyone in this position contact their SMS peering hub and the NPAC Helpdesk for more information." https://puck.nether.net/pipermail/voiceops/2015-November/006074.html I run a few SMSCs and pass messages through them directly to my carriers. With one carrier I use a shared NNID, and with another I have a dedicated/hosted NNID. Here are my questions: - How would one find out through which Vendors an SMS passes, in order to troubleshoot deliverability or receivability issues? - Does anyone what vendor/aggregator that Verizon Wireless uses? - Are the major US wireless carriers interconnected directly, or through yet another vendor? - Has NetNumberID won out over AltSPID? - Why would long code SMS messages NOT generate DLRs from the receiving carrier through these SMS aggregators/vendors? I acknowledge my limited understanding of all the SMS players and the technical functionality here. Any new knowledge is appreciated. Percentage of US Wireless Calls that fail to reach/ring phone?

Is there any published studies on the number of incoming calls that are placed to a US Wireless mobile number that fail to actually reach or ring the phone? Any studies that go through the most common reasons why that occurs? I am curious about network prioritization, cell tower capacity rules/management, and why, if a cellular device has a "good enough" connection to a tower might the signal to the device that there is an incoming call NOT be sent? I have a lot of customers who get frustrated when there is a call we are forwarding or making to them, and we reach their mobile carrier, but their mobile device does not ring. They say "I'm looking right at it, and you say you're calling it, but it isn't ringing!" As if the wireless network is somehow under our control. There's a lot of marketing about "network quality" and "network coverage" but very little about dropped calls, or calls that fail to start and go straight to Voicemail. Porting dept. contacts

Hey all, As someone who still relies wholly on CLEC partners for TDM-to-IP & numbering resources, and thus has no access to NPAC, how would one hunt down contact information for a telecom's porting department, if it was not published anywhere on their public web site? Rumor has it that NPAC has a list of contact info for all participating entities...is that the only centralized list of its kind? Also, would any telecoms without their own numbering resources be listed in there? Reason for question is that we are beating our head into a brick wall trying to port some numbers currently attached to analog landlines over for a new sub. The billing entity seems to just be a reseller as far as I can tell, as LRN lookup for all numbers show the local ILEC, and I can't find any sign that this entity has any numbers or even an OCN to their name (though I also do not have copy of LERG to check, either). Porting dept. for winning carrier is submitting LSR to the ILEC, not the reseller, and naturally getting a slew of rejections back. The one contact that the end-user has for this reseller has not been super-helpful. They insist that the winning carrier needs to "reach out to [our] port team to coordinate" but when I ask for contact details, I'm told he doesn't have them to share & that the "porting department of the new carrier should be aware of the process". Oh really? And how exactly are they supposed to find the contact information for your ports people? Just in case (as I suspect) they don't already have it at their fingertips, I'd like to find and share this contact info with our underlying carrier in order to help grease the wheels and avoid any further delays. Brazil VoIP DIDs with SMS (one- or two-way)

Looking for a wholesale (or any really) vendor who offers Brazil numbers with SMS, either inbound-only or inbound and outbound, for individual (P2P) purposes, and delivers incoming calls via SIP. - DIDWW offers Brazil DIDs, but no SMS. - Bandwidth/Voxbone offers Brazil DIDs, but no SMS. - DIDlogic offers Brazil, no SMS it looks like, plus $250/month minimum - Twilio offers Brazil but no SMS. There seems to be a bunch of B2C or B2B companies offering Brazil Mobile Virtual Numbers with SMS, but none in the wholesale circles I'm aware of. I appreciate any leads or suggestions or recommendations (or education on why this is hard to find!). Issues to T-Mobile

Hi All, We are a small ITSP and every so often we have issues with calls that go to T-Mobile. We sign all our calls with our cert. Lately we have been getting 404's, 608's etc through 382, Telnyx and SIPRoutes. Bandwidth has been worse than the rest as they don't outright reject calls but they send a 100 trying and leave us hanging for 30 seconds. Peerless and one other carrier are completing the calls. Anyone know what makes T-Moble special that so many carriers will just 404 calls to their network? TIA. Dovid

Port Away Cancel Service

I have two conflicting opinions in my head (origin unknown) of what to do with the subscriber's service when they port away. In the absence of requirements, what are people generally doing? 1) They've ported a given number away, so clearly they don't want our service. Terminate the service and enact any termination provisions in their agreement. 2) Contact the customer (after the port is complete) and confirm their intention to cancel.
