Going through a migration from E911 to NG911, I've been peering into what and how we do 911, both old and new. A) Not all services have a web UI for you to make changes. Intrado does, but the new one does not. Only way is to upload SOI files. I guess we gotta figure out how to do that. B) We have more entries than we have TNs. C) People are bad at documentation. I'm assuming we should be deleting records for customers that disconnected service. I'm not sure we've done that, based on the records that I see. For customers that port away, I'm assuming we're supposed to be unlocking the TN for the new provider to take over the record. If I unlock it, but the new provider never migrates away, what do I do with it? Metaswitch Loopback

I'm working a situation where I need to rewrite my called number to a toll-free number. Because the rewriting happens after Metaswitch does the toll-free lookup, the tandem rejects the call as there's no dip. Metaswitch support had me route the call to a SIP loopback trunk, but that also fails because I don't accept transit calls. I saw the warning in the Metaswitch KB about enabling transit calls, so that doesn't excite me. Are there other ways of skinning this cat, aside from rewriting to a non-toll-free number? Why I'm hesitant to do that is the goal here is to dump calls out a TDM provider instead of a SIP provider. These are priority calls and I want a backup to IP-based solutions. Force an Outbound Caller ID Number on Broadworks

Is there a way to force an outbound caller ID number on Broadworks? We have a SIP ONT that seems to auto enable its caller ID restriction feature. We would like to make it where regardless what the ONT sends, always make the external number of outbound calls the user's DID. I think is doing the equivalent of a *69 as it just unknown for the caller id name and number when calling outbound.

Recommendation for a merchant account for Telecom

Hello, Can you recommend a merchant bank or broker who will work with the telecom industry? I am sure that the problem is not for the giants of the industry but small telecom companies now have the negative label "VoIP". It does not really matter what you do exactly and how you provide services not even if you have years of clean record, the banking industry defines you as "VoIP" and it does not matter much what you say. I am just looking for referrals to brokers or banks who ARE interested in good customers in the industry. If you have a recommendation I would appreciate it very much. Send me a PM if you prefer. ;-) We let go an employee that handled most (maybe even all) of our ordering, porting, etc. Getting knowledge out of them was impossible. Whatever knowledge they did have wasn't usually maintained. So far about half of the entities I've reached out to are unable to determine what users are associated with our SPID. They can only remove users if you tell them the exact user name. These aren't Billy Bob's neighborhood CLEC, either. They're major national or international companies. I still am not completely up to speed on the NG911 stuff admittedly, so take with grain of salt, but... My understanding has always been that E911 database cruft is not a big deal because each E911 aggregator essentially runs their own database, and the lookups are done at the time of the 911 call & the source of the call is taken into account (however the carrier is trunked to the E911 SP; e.g., the particular SIP peer if trunking between carrier and E911 provider is done via IP), so even if two carriers use the same E911 aggregator and have conflicting entries for the same TN in their database, the correct address will still get sent to the PSAP, because the query that's executed isn't only "where TN = xxx" but is the equivalent of "where From: VoiceOps [mailto:voiceops-bounces at voiceops.org] On Behalf Of Mike Hammett via VoiceOps Sent: Tuesday, October 18, 2022 3:22 PM To: voiceops at voiceops.org Subject: [VoiceOps] 911 Database Stuff Going through a migration from E911 to NG911, I've been peering into what and how we do 911, both old and new. Help Navigating AT&T call trees that go nowhere

I have an issue with a local AT&T tandem rejecting calls for AT&T some subscribers (entire NXX from what we can see). We've tried to call pretty much every number we have and gotten nowhere. Either the person can't help and transfers us to a place that can't help, or they give us a new 800 number to call. In one instance the new 800 number was a medical facility, not AT&T. Does anyone have a way to actually reach someone? One of the numbers we got is from an actual AT&T technician, and even he couldn't get through to someone to look at the issue. Thanks Shawn

Abandoned Ported Numbers

Say a subscriber ports a number to/from a different telco. Then, after some time, the subscriber decides they no longer want the phone number (or phone service in general). What should be done with this abandoned number? Should the number immediately be returned to the donor telco? Should the number be returned to the donor telco after aging? Is it permissible for the recipient telco to add this number to their inventory and then re-assign the number to a different subscriber?

Lack of Sandbox

How common is it for an upstream provider (in this case someone that manages 911 networks) to not have a sandbox, testing number, or anything of any kind to allow you to test that you've done everything right, short of just sending 911 calls in production? Most of my third-party DID providers have various (well, usually 933) numbers to test that you're routing correctly, are getting the right information returned, etc. One (the one on the LEC side of the house) has no mechanism for such. To quote Bill O'Reilly, "We'll do it live!".
