Voice peering

Based on this presentation [0] from Comcast, they are interconnecting with their biggest voice peers via SIP rather than SS7. They appear to use ENUM for route selection. I'm sure others are doing this too, though I can't find anything public. I'm interested if anyone has more info on how this works. I'm guessing participants maintain their own private ENUM servers and just trust each other? As far as I know the only way to validate number ownership is via an LNP dip, which would be expensive to do for every call. I would like to be able to consume a service like that, at least in an outbound direction; as a small operator, I'm sure convincing large carriers to trust my ENUM server would be very difficult. But having a greater degree of interconnectedness (and mostly importantly avoiding TDM) seems like a good thing. Does anyone have experience with this sort of thing? Ring Central Issue?

Are any of you seeing an issue terminating calls to Ring Central in Chicago? I put in a ticket with one of our termination providers (Lingo\Impact) and they reported that all routes they had were going to fail. I looked at another of our termination providers (Birch\Fusion) and they fail as well, though I haven't put in a ticket yet. I sent it again via VoIP.ms and they fail. SS7 problems

We've narrowed this down to calls completing on our facilities (from likely least cost routing) down an AT&T TDM/SS7 terminating trunk group. We have no contacts for this trunk group, and even turned the trunk group down for a day thinking we would get a call, but didn't. We're still getting two calls to a single number, one call with caller on it and the other with dead air. The dual calls are coming from various service providers on this trunk group. Anyone have any suggestions? We narrowed to calls coming from Verizon Wireless. We?re located in southern Illinois, we?re thinking this could be a regionalized issue??again any input is welcome. I know SS7 is not a big part of the voice world for many of you, but for those of you still exposed to it, just curious if anyone experienced any problems with SS7 signaling in the past couple of days where Terminating signaling times out and a 2nd retry and new call set up for the call delivery occurs. Definition: Local Calls

Is there any legal definition as to what constitutes local calls? I know that Local Calling Guide reports on what the ILECs treat as local, but I don't know if there's anything that is requiring me to have the same definition. My operating theory is that if it's on the same tandem switch, I might as well treat it as local.
