Greetings, I'm looking for SP in-house BCP, and/or awareness of a SP to SP scoped BCP (ala SIP Connect) for SS/CN configuration. We are running POLQA for A/B trunk quality testing against two LD providers. One trunk was coming back as ?worse?, and the root cause was trunk/provider B had SS/CN enabled such that the silent bits of the reference recording were getting a hiss/Comfort-Noise added. ? Now we're in the throws of a healthy debate around the utility and support for SS/CN on our trunks. I've historically been of the mindset you disable that stuff - largely due to dubious implementations causing voice clipping. But I know not to generalize based on personal experience, and I've seen some vendors have SS/CN enabled by default. Thanks in advance for your feedback and perspective on the matter! BR, Russ

All Circuits Busy?

I realize this is a bit of a fishing expedition, but is anyone seeing an recent increase of all circuits busy conditions over the last week or know of any PSTN trunk capacity problems? Unfortunately, I can't be more specific because we are seeing an uptick but doesn't seem isolated to any one of our PSTN carriers. It is also not isolated to any one geography. Thanks

SMS Platform

The last time i spoke with them on the topic, the SMPP module for AMS had not made GA yet. I stopped waiting and built it myself for use with Ejabberd along with custom auth etc. The Metaswitch EAS does SMPP for MWI but nothing else. A quick search in their KB shows only SMPP for MWI support on the EAS. not really anything else. I had looked at MMS as well, just had not built it out as there hasnt been a well formed enough use case. MMS + XMPP is a little harder as you need to store the mime body somewhere, and then there is the issue of XMPP client fragmentation. the base XEP spec is too bare bones so the client ecosystem doesnt give you a strong enough guaranteed minimum feature set. That really means you need to either roll up your own XMPP endpoint to support handling the mime bodies in a sane fashion, or you wind up with oddly broken workflows that leave a sub-par customer experience. Ive also considered using SIP (counterpath, zoiper, acrobits) and various flavors of http based mechanisms. Again it comes back to how much ecosystem do you want to have to deploy for this. So far the leading prospect is the matrix protocol but its missing some key components (its a very young project) before its ready for multi-tenant prime time. Carrier Voicemail Platforms

We are in the market for a new voicemail platform. This vm platform would be carrier grade for a ILEC/CLEC that uses a variety of TDM and SIP switches. We want something feature rich that is SIP based. Our current softswitch platform that we are growing is Broadworks. We would probably want to start around 50K mailboxes but with the ability to grow much larger as we consolidate voicemail systems. This space is pretty unfamiliar to me so I was wondering if anyone can share which companies I can begin to research. We are open to on-prem and hosted (price would be a major factor on the viability of hosted). Also, if you have recommendations to share or know of any research papers that compares vendor offerings I would much appreciate it. Thanks, Jeff

Possible Windstream - Broadsoft misconfiguration?

I did and it's Surgemail. What you need to understand is that voicemail is nothing more than email stored on a mail server. I'd be happy to discuss the finer points with you if you want to PM me. Generalized call failures

Level 3 and 3rd party LIDB providers

We have a fair amount of LI did's with Level3 and have need of updating LIDB information on some of them. We've steered clear of the Level3 ELS package due to the excess cost instead of using Level3 for origination and 3rd parties for CNAM and 911. However, we've run into a brick wall with LIDB. Level3 states that "They are not able to update point codes to provide compatibility with 3rd party LIDB providers (such as OpenCNAM)." Has anyone else run into this before?
